19/03/06 2006 Tesco 99 Octane British Rally Championship - BRC Live!

CHAMPION MAKES DEBUT FOR WORKS MITSUBISHI TEAM.

Ryan Champion made his first official appearance for the Mitsubishi Motors Works Rally Team at the British Rally Championship launch event, BRC Live!, at Mallory Park on Sunday.

With the event been attended by all the front runners from the forthcoming series and former World Rally Champion Colin McRae, a large crowd gathered at the Leicester venue to see the drivers in action.

Ryan commented "Although it was a demonstration rather than a competitive event, it gave everyone a good chance to see the cars close up. It's also great to have Colin here supporting the BRC. It gave me chance to put some mileage on the brand new Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 9 I'll be using this year. The car performed faultlessly and I can't wait for the BRC to start!"

Champion's main British Championship rivals, Gwyndaf Evans and Mark Higgins, both former series winners, were also demonstrating their 2006 machines as was Ryan's Mitsubishi Motors team mate Rory Galligan. The first round of the BRC, the Pirelli Rally, takes place in Kielder forest in May.

Ryan will however been in competitive action this coming weekend on the North Humberside Forest Rally when he will drive the Champion's of Castleton Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. "It's a while since I've done a rally so as this is a local event in the North Yorkshire forests, I was keen to get some competitive mileage in. Like any sport, it's important to compete regularly to keep you sharp.
The North Humberside Rally takes place on Saturday with stages in Dalby, Cropton and Langdale forests. More information is available on the events website at www.northhumbersideforestrally.org.uk .
