For the second week in succession, Castleton, North Yorkshire rally driver Ryan Champion failed to see the finish ramp as mechanical problems thwarted his chances on the opening round of the Mitsubishi Ralliart Evolution Challenge.

Having totally rebuilt the gearbox on the MSR Motorsport prepared Champions of Castleton Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 6 following a gear selector breaking on last weekend�s Kall Kwik Rally, Champion and York co driver Craig Thorley were hoping for success on the Bournemouth based Rallye Sunseeker.
On his debut on the event, Ryan took things steadily on the two Friday night spectator stages in the Lower Gardens of the town before deciding to attack in the forests the following day.

All was going to plan with competitive times on the opening pair of stages on Saturday but on SS5, a rear suspension arm broke on the long Mount Ararat test dropping the pair seven minutes in the process. With the crew working wonders to replace the part at emergency service, Champion was back on the pace on SS6 but on the final stage before service, the unthinkable happened.

Going through SS7 at Hurn, the opposite arm broke and despite the best efforts of the team again, the pair were OTL when they reached service.
�I�ve never heard of one of these arms breaking let alone two� said a disconsolate Champion afterwards. �I�m not enjoying the best of luck at the moment in this car but it will hopefully change on the Border Counties Rally. It certainly needs to!�
